Stages

Three sectors of stage play under (almost) one roof - the Stuttgart State Opera and the Stuttgart Ballet share the Großes Haus (which still is the original building from the times of the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg), the Schauspiel has its stages in the Kleines Haus and other theatre buildings, spread over Stuttgart.

The artistic directors were able to attract famous German and international actors through the ages. All sectors have been decorated several times, in 2006 they could united the titles "Opera of the year", "Theatre of the year" and "Best Opera Choir in Germany".

The Stuttgart Ballet is world famous. John Cranko was appointed to Director of Ballet in 1961 and made the company to one of the best at all. Still his stagings, such as "Romeo and Juliet", "Onegin" and "The Taming of the Shrew", belong to today's repertoire.

In the twenties and thirties of the last century the Friedrichsbau hosted artists like Karl Valentin or Josephine Baker. On this historical place in 1993 the Friedrichsbau was built, hosting the Vaudeville Friedrichsbau amongst others.

Artists and performers, magicans and comedians on the highest level make you laugh, be astonished and stop breathing today again.

Meanwhile more than 1.5 million people have been visitor of the Vaudeville Friedrichsbau and 1.400 artists appeared in 6.000 shows. Still the Vaudeville Friedrichsbau is attracting those fascinated by this traditional art. It is an important part of Stuttgart's attractive cultural landscape and belongs to the vaudeville stages in Germany with the highest reputation.
