Stuttgart Christmas Market

The Stuttgart Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful and eldest christmas markets in Europe. It was first documented in 1692, but it's beginnings are estimated to be in the early 16th century. At the end of the 18th century the former cattle market became a carnival with tightrope dancers, magicians and jugglers.

Nowadays the Stuttgart Christmas Market welcomes between three and four million visitors every year. About 280 ventures (there are more than 1,500 applications for stands every year) care for the christmas mood on Castle Place, Schiller Place, Karls Place and the Market Place.

Stuttgart Vine Village

The Swabians' national dish always will be the wine. It's consumption in Baden-Württemberg is one and a half times as high as in the other parts of the Federal Republic. The young duke Ulrich became very popular with his people then, when he filled the fountain at the Castle Place with wine instead of the water to celebrate his wedding.

Nowadays you certainly can only get the wine at the 120 restaurateurs' vine bowers, but now you can choose 200 different varieties, accompanied by typical Swabian delicacies, such as Pasta Squares or Bubenspitzle. The Vine Village opened it's gates for the first time in 1976 and became a traditional festivity attracting more then 100,000 visitors per year on the twelve days at the end of August and beginning of September.
